Unfortunately, today has started pretty rough. Latasha had to be taken back to the OR to deal with a large blood clot that developed in her left brachial artery (above her elbow) and is causing some significant issues, primarily the risk of stroke.
Additionally, the medical team is concerned that she has developed an infection in her lungs, so they will need to do a biopsy directly after the OR to confirm or deny developing the proper protocol to fight it.
The positive is that the surgery is fairly straightforward and will only take a few hours. They’ll just go in and remove the clot without cutting, so I guess I’ll take that, considering all.
The medical team is hoping to remove some more lines and tubes once she’s back from the OR. I wish I could say that Tasha’s spirits were high, but she is frustrated and overwhelmed by the setbacks. As one nurse told me early on, the long, slow rollercoaster ride is measured hour-by-hour, and the only constant in the ICU is that there is no constant; things change rapidly.
So, as we rise this ride, hang in. I’m sure there are many more twists and turns in store for this journey.
Please continue your support and prayers.
