D15 – Transplant U1

Today has been a pretty good day for Latasha. It was filled with good hospital food (actually, not bad), rest, and a few routine scans and tests here and there.

Lastasha started by doing another 200 + foot walk much faster. Her posture and gate were stronger, and her physical therapist was impressed. She worked with occupational therapy to strengthen her arms for eating and other essential daily tasks. We used breathing therapy to keep those lungs in optimal condition and protect against infections. And most importantly, she could order her meal selections and feel like she has some control over her day now.

There are still a few concerns I don’t want to get into here, but if those can be addressed and she’s stable enough, we could see the step-down unit (with a private room) by the end of the week.

Our biggest issue right now is finding short-term housing that doesn’t require me to be a millionaire or feel like I’m capable of living in Iraq.

Cleveland is a tricky place because there are many depressed areas overrun with crime, and it is hard to find something online. Without getting into specifics, there are a ton of bad humans out there who want to take people’s money and prey on them. That is not happening to this old war veteran.

So, as the clock keeps ticking, Tasha keeps healing and improving. As the days turn into weeks, there will be more to come and more to share.

We love you all, and thank you for everything.
