Latasha had another really good day today. As the doctors and medical teams want, each day brings a restored energy level and a little bit closer to being discharged.
Tasha crushes her therapy daily and walked another 200 feet, including about 20 feet unassisted. So, this means she is ready to go to the recovery wing tomorrow and do more walking and routine things like showering and using facilities by herself (with my help).
She had one of her chest surgical drainage tubes removed, so she’s almost free of all her tubes. Just two more to go, and hopefully, that’ll happen this weekend.
As we round out this week, she’ll soon be three weeks post-transplant, which means she’ll begin her routine bloodwork and bronchoscopy schedule to detect any organ rejections or infections.
The coming weeks will be vital to see how her healed system responds to the new organs, as she is on several lifelong immune suppression medications. This means we must be cautious around sick people (don’t get mad if I tell you to leave or avoid you), public and crowded places, and other potential hazards. It’s a small trade-off to have for the gift of life.
So, fingers crossed that we get her into the private recovery room tomorrow because that’s where all of her real rest and recovery will begin.
