D3 – Transplant Update 1

The slow rollercoaster.

First, happy Independence Day. Latasha and I have always loved this day and the meaning behind it. Freedom is powerful and embodies both of us as Americans, individuals, and a husband and wife team – Team Warner.

The importance of that is that we do everything together. We support each other’s dreams, goals, and happiness. This transplant journey has always been hers, and while Tasha supported my lofty career goals, we have always looked at each duty assignment through the lens of how to get to the end state of a successful transplant. The answer was straightforward: Cleveland Clinic. We were blessed to have great opportunities and even greater people in our inner circle to help us achieve that by getting to Ohio.

So here we are, full throttle forward with the double lung and heart transplant done.
The awesome nurse today equated each patient’s journey to a slow rollercoaster. I love that. It sums up Tash’a’s journey to get here. Since 2018, when we moved to Pennsylvania, we have been on this slow rollercoaster here at CC, and what a fantastic ride it has been!
To the update, overnight didn’t yield the results the medical staff had hoped for, but she has less facial swelling.

Her fever came back, and she’s in a lot of pain and has been a bit feisty when they try to wean her off the sedation. Today will be slow and steady, with some medical adjustments and CT scans to ensure she is okay.
More to follow throughout the day.
