Is it Friday? At some point, the concept of time has morphed into a time warp. Half the time, I don’t know the day of the week, let alone the date, and 50/50 on the time.
So I say again, is it Friday? According to the calendar, it is.
So that means Latasha is one day closer to getting out of this joint—one day closer to dreams, goals, adventures, and whatever the next surprise is. According to doctors, Tasha is very close to being discharged, likely early next week. I announce this with much optimism and a mild dose of skepticism.
Yesterday and today were, for the most part, pretty great days. There were a few ups and downs with nausea and appetite, but we got to embrace exploring the hospital and do a lot of walking and hand-holding. Each day, Tasha surpassed her previous distance, and we left a mile-long goal behind us. This has played a significant role in her fluid overload going down and her systems equalizing toward a normal baseline.
We have had fantastic conversations with many people on the medical staff. This week, in particular, we formed a strong bond with Tasha’s nurse, Sabrina. She is a traveling nurse from Miami who has been all over the country. Her technical skills, compassion, adventures, and passion for life remind me of a service member. Tasha and Sabrina share the love of Gohst tours and fantastic food. She has been such a blessing this week in combating boredom with great conversations and laughter. We love you, Sabrina!
As we enter the weekend, we are optimistic that this rollercoaster might be coming to an end, and we can then get on the next ride on this journey. Tasha and I are excited to start writing the next chapter of this journey and reflecting on it all. We plan on meeting with all the doctors and ICU staff and thanking them for the amazing gift they helped give Tasha.
We have big dreams and a lot of time to make up. So, cheers to Tasha’s enduring grit and infectious resilience.
We’re proud of you Latasha, your transformation and perseverance is inspiring.
