D5 – Transplant U2

Although we’re not where we would like to be, Latasha had a good day. I must keep reminding myself that Tasha’s been through a lot, and she’s a fighter; she will get through just like every other hurdle we’ve faced.

Sadly, there is no photo of her without her ventilator tube.

The doctors were finally able to get her epidural and nerve blocks in, which was the start of weaning her of the majority of pain meds and sedatives. This was a huge win because it took a while to get it in successfully.

Latasha has slowly gained better consciousness, with bouts of extreme exhaustion in between. This enhanced consciousness has allowed the medical staff to feel good about her cognitive awareness and begin the process of removing her ventilator tube.

The next step to accomplish this is to confirm her oxygen blood gas levels are higher than her blood C02 levels. If they are, then they’ll slowly wean her off the ventilator to breathe on her own.

I’m not sure if that’ll happen during visiting hours, but maybe that’ll lead to a big surprise in the morning.

I let her watch a video of the dogs singing that our fantastic dog sitter, Braelynn, sent Tasha. That brought an incredible amount of joy to her eyes.

So, adding another day of small wins to the growing list will get us to one giant big win.

Thank you for all your support and prayers.

Until tomorrow.
