Frustrated

Oh, home-away-from-home, where out thy home…

Today, I have spent countless hours reviewing several websites and apps for renting a house or extended hotel stays. To say I am frustrated is an understatement.

I did get a good site from a nurse who is a traveling nurse, so I’m hoping that one pans out. We shall see.

This one aspect of the transplant journey was talked about numerous times with our social worker and between Tasha and me, and we planned for it, but the one thing you cannot plan for is timing.

Timing is everything when it comes to reservations. It dictates the start, end, and everything in between, which is where my frustration grows. I’ll find something that looks great at first glance, and then I’ll find some hidden detail in reviews or responses (or lack of response) from property managers.

A lot of these feel like a hate and switch. I take generosity and fiscal responsibility very seriously. It is getting slightly debilitating because of some external factors that shouldn’t be factors, but I digress.

I am perplexed that a facility as large as Cleveland Clinic doesn’t have dedicated space just for out-of-town transplant patients and their immediate families. I’m not saying it should be for free, but it is a legitimate space suited for optimal recovery and fiscal health for the family.

This short- or long-term housing solution is a problem that the Transplant House of Cleveland has been addressing, but they can only accommodate the patient and one caregiver. They only have four two-bedroom apartments. It’s not ideal for anyone who needs space for more.

In speaking with the social worker today, it is clear that we will have a plan to be here until October unless Tasha’s recovery speeds up in her post-hospital phase. Time will tell, I suppose.

We are truly blessed to have so many compassionate friends, family, and strangers donate to assist in the financial puzzle and juggling act.

I will be working to sort out a solution in the coming days as I expect to transition to something in the coming week, way sooner than later.
