Transplant Update 4

As we have spent the day talking with the medical and care staff, a few things are clear:

1) Cleveland Clinic staff are dedicated to their craft and know how to deal with emotional husbands like me.
2) Although a minor setback, Latasha’s current condition is not uncommon with the complexities of her transplant. It’s not their first rodeo.
3) She is currently fighting hard, and her body is doing exactly what they need it to do.
4) The chest closure is still on track for Thursday (Friday at the latest).
5) I feel the love and prayers and have slowly settled into the reality of the unknown.

Later this afternoon, they will bring her out of sedation just enough to do a neurological cognition test. Don’t worry; she won’t feel anything; it’s been asked numerous times.

Once they can close her chest, they’ll be able to start pulling fluids off, which are a by-product of countermeasures they had to take against excessive blood loss. This is why her face is so badly swollen.

Overall, a positive first day and each day will bring little gains for a total sum of a big win.

More to come soon.
