Setbacks and Opportunities

So last night, LaTasha had really bad vomiting out of nowhere. The worst part is that it came after a few great days of no nausea and tolerating soups, shakes, popsicles, and Gatorade.

Unfortunately, the vomiting caused her feeding core pack and tube to become dislodged from her small intestine. We were warned this could happen in rare instances, but that doesn’t prepare you for when it does.

Luckily, I’m a pretty curious guy. I want to know how things work and be prepared for worst-case scenarios, so I watched a few medical videos on how to remove it if I had to. I was able to remove it before she choked on it quickly (it came up and out of her stomach into her throat and mouth).

Tasha vomited nonstop all night, and neither of us got much sleep. The animals were also worried, which made it extra chaotic.

As I said before, we’re not sure what caused it because it just looked like an ensure clear she had with her meds. We hope it was temporary and medication-caused, and she can get her entire caloric intake in.

More importantly, we’re hoping that when we tell her doctor about it, they don’t try to readmit her to have it put back in. As you can imagine, Tasha’s pretty upset about it all and the prospect of having to go back.

So that’s the setback. As far as opportunities, well, I view this as make-or-break time for her body to wake up and do its thing. We’re going to work hard to make a scheduled caloric plan to achieve 1200 calories through Ensure Clear, protein shakes, juices, broth, and Gatorade. It’s going to take work, but I think it’s doable if her stomach cooperates.

So here’s to opportunity and overcoming challenges.
