HLT / Stomach Complications Update

Today, Tasha and I returned to Cleveland Clinic to address her urgent lack of calories and stomach issues. As I suspected, they admitted her for the foreseeable future as they devised a care plan.

The short of the long is that she still can’t get oral nutrition, and the feeding tube won’t stay in place due to the violent vomiting. That causes her surgical sites to be very sore. That causes her not to sleep. That causes her mental fatigue. So on and so on, you get the picture.

We’ve met with serval doctors and specialists so far, and they are running a barrage of tests, scans, X-rays, and labs to set a course toward what likely will be a stomach surgery. It’s too early to tell, but a few alternatives have been discussed, none of which are preferred.

It is not fun being back here. I am conflicted when the entire nursing staff on the floor immediately recognizes us and is excited because they like us, but that immediately turns into pity. It feels so defeating when explaining it all over again to numerous staff.

The positive is that Tasha is receiving the care she needs, but it’s another game of hurry up and wait, and we’ll see. To say we’re tired is an understatement.

Stay tuned for the next chapter of the journey as we navigate this next unknown part of it.
