A quick surgical update. This morning at 6:50 a.m., they took Tasha back to do a Gastric Per Oral Endoscopic myotomy (G-POEM), aka POP surgery.
In short, the surgery surgically opens the pylorus, the connector tube between the stomach and small intestines, with an incision and stitching to keep it relaxed and open for better food passage and nutrient absorption.
The surgery went well and was successful from a surgical standpoint. We won’t know if it worked for a few days or weeks. The next step is a barium emptying test on Friday to see how it works.
To be transparent, Tasha isn’t out of the woods yet. The surgeon said only 70% of patients see complete success with this procedure, so a permanent J-Tube feeding port isn’t off the table. This will be another hurry-up-and-wait scenario, so stand by with us.
Once I know more, I will update you. Thank you for your continued support and prayers. I cannot emphasize how hard this has been on Tasha; it is harder than most realize.
Until next time.
