Stomach / HLT Update

It’s been a long week of hurrying up and waiting for Tasha. The good news is that the POP procedure seems to have helped her intake more fluids and reduced vomiting, for now.

A short trip to the rooftop to break up the monotony.

Tasha has a long, slow road ahead of her to get through clear liquids, full liquids, puréed foods, and soft pallet foods before she can try solids. Gastroparesis (slowing of the stomach) will be the determining factor in long-term outcomes. The doctors expect a couple of months before we know anything.

Chicken broth, (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) yummy

In the meantime, Tasha’s main goal/priority is to stay hydrated and get as much protein and nutrition as possible to slowly regain some of the weight she lost. The medication-induced nausea will be another barrier to everything as her system tries to find a new normal.

As it stands still, her transplant graph and all functions are in tip-top shape, and there are no signs of any rejection. We hope to get discharged this afternoon but have several back-and-forth trips to Cleveland Clinic for outpatient and clinical follow-ups.

In addition to all of this, the entire lack of food and loss of lifestyle and joy that comes with that has created a deep struggle and depression for Tasha. One can only imagine the emotions that would come with all of this; I’m living it with her daily and can only emphasize and sympathize so much. I point this out because Tasha has struggled to communicate with anyone. Tasha is very grateful for everyone and her blessing but has struggled beyond words with the thought of never eating her favorite foods or baking or cooking.

Tasha was able to do some relaxation therapy through art and music, which seemed to help her temporarily take her mind off everything.

Music therepy

I will continue to update as we go. Thank you for your continued support and love.
